To Pump Up Hair's Volume...

Switch to mousse. It costs the same as other styling products, but because it contains resins that lightly coat strands to add thickness and lift hair at the root, mousse delivers far more oomph, says Renee Cohen, senior stylist at Serge Normant at the John Frieda Salon in New York City.

Dry hair upside down. To build volume when you blow-dry, work a palm full of mousse from your roots through to the ends, then flip your head over and dry your hair away from the scalp. "Hair should be barely damp before you flip it back up and style it," she says. (Think you knowthe healthiest way to dry your hair? Don't be so sure...)

Brush in fullness. Using a round brush to style hair builds in more volume. Pick a medium-size brush (for longer hair) or small (for shorter)—the full circle of bristles will give roots a lift as you blow-dry, brushing in the opposite direction the hair is going to lay. Hook the brush under a 2-inch section of hair at the root, and lift as you roll it through to the ends—all the while following the brush with the dryer. Keep the nozzle above your brush and pointed down to increase shine.

To Restore Locks’ Luster...

Give yourself a weekly hot-oil treatment. Save a bundle by substituting jojoba oil (find it in natural food stores for about $10) for pricier hair-repair products. "Jojoba has a fine molecular structure that allows it to enter and fill the hair shaft, making it a perfect choice for conditioning," says Paul Labrecque, owner of the New York City-based Paul Labrecque Salon. Spread the oil liberally through dry hair, put on a plastic shower cap, then cover with a hot towel for 30 minutes. Wash it out thoroughly, then rinse with cold water to seal the cuticle and trap added moisture. "When the hair shaft is infused with oil, the cuticle lies flatter, so your hair looks smoother and shinier," he explains.

Keep a cool head. Heat opens hair's protective outer layer, damaging strands and creating frizz. "Frequently cooling the hair while styling helps keep your cuticle flat," says Labrecque. If your dryer has a cool-shot button, use it to deliver a blast of cold air after drying each individual section. (This also helps lock in your new style.) If it doesn't, he suggests holding your style in place with your brush for about 30 seconds to let hair cool off.

Do This Once A Week.....

Japanese women have enjoyed the benefits of rice for centuries. The secret of their beauty lies in this simple gift of nature.
Rice is an amazing source of linoleic acid and squalene, a mighty antioxidant that stimulates collagen production. It slows the occurence of wrinkles. Squalene also protects skin from sun. Rice is also abundant in vitamin E and gamma oryznol, known for its ability to protect heart and decrease cholesterol levels.
Unfortunately, apart from Japanese, most people are not aware of these facts. Rice does miracles when it comes to skin rejuvenation.

We give you a super simple rice mask that will smooth out your wrinkles and give you a nice skin complexion.
You need:
  • 3 tbsp rice
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp honey
Preparation:
Boil and strain the rice. Preserve the water. Stir a tablespoon of warm milk into the rice, then add a tablespoon of honey.
Always apply the mask on clean and dry skin. Leave it on until dried. Clean your face and rinse it with the water in which you cooked the rice.
Rice water has strong antioxidant properties. It moisturizes skin and stimulates circulation. Rice water also helps in removing age spots and relieves inflammation. It will make your skin healthy and moisturized. Use it to protect your skin from sun.
For optimal results, repeat this treatment at least once a week. You will be amazed of your complexion in the mirror – you will look 10 years younger.

Lose Weight For Christmas

Whether you have a little weight to lose or a lot, or a lot it's best not to
reduce your calorie intake to less than 1200 calories a day. This level of
intake will help you shed around a couple of pounds a week (a bit more at
first) so you should be around half a stone trimmer by Christmas.
Importantly it won't hamper your weight loss effort by sending your body
into starvation mode.

The food choices you then make to obtain these 1,200 calories is the crucial
factor in how hungry or otherwise you will feel. To beat hunger pangs
completely, try these fail-safe tips:

1Make two thirds of your diet plant-based. Pasta, rice, beans, bread and
fruits and vegetables give maximum fill for minimal calories, and making
them the main rather than secondary part of your meal means you'll always
have plenty to eat.

2Choose high fibre options wherever possible. Fibre doesn't contain any
calories, so it fills without being fattening. It also slows down stomach
emptying so that you feel full for longer. And because you have to chew high
fibre foods so well it forces you to eat them more slowly.

3 Eat high water foods. Water is the ultimate low calorie, high volume food,
so liquid meals such as soups and stews can be particularly satisfying, and
kinder to your waistline. Another trick is to drink a glass of water before
a meal to trick the stomach's stretch receptors into sending 'I'm full'
messages to the brain.

4Don't skimp on low fat sources of protein, such as fish, grilled chicken
and lean meat. Lean protein has an effective blunting effect on your
appetite, and can make you feel full for longer.

5Cut the fat. Apart from the obvious reason - that it has more than twice
the calories than the same weight of protein or starch - fat is also the
least filling food component of all.

If you follow these rules, you'll be able to eat really well (for example
cereal and fruit for breakfast, soup, bread and yoghurt for lunch and a
large veggie curry and rice followed by fruit fool for evening meal) and
still not go over 1200 calories.

Are YOUR Weight Worries Holding You Back In Bed?

Tracey Cox reveals the three fears that are ruining women's sex lives (and why they shouldn't)

  • Sexpert Tracey Cox says women worry so much they can't enjoy sex
  • She says bad body image is ruining the experience for many women
  • But the sexpert reveals why there is really nothing to worry about

Sex is meant to be one of life's greatest pleasures.

So why do lots of women spend the whole time worrying rather than enjoying themselves?

Here are the top three things most women stress about in bed - and shouldn't.

YOUR BODY

Most women are paranoid about their bodies and it's not just our self-esteem which takes a miserable dive every time we succumb to obsessing about our muffin tops.
A bad body image has a direct effect on our ability to enjoy sex.
Numerous studies have shown body self-conscious women are more timid, less likely to initiate sex, try new positions or talk about their needs than women who are happy with their bodies.

But the reality is most men don't look at your bottom and think 'Dear God! Look at those Godawful lumps!', they think 'Let me get my hands on that!'.

Research continually shows that men in love are almost universally positive about their partner's body.

You see fat, he sees curves.

Sex is about what's happening on the inside not the outside. It's about feeling sensations, feeling connected and loved - and having orgasms.
Lying there stressing about how you look and feeling paranoid means none of the above is going to happen.

NOT HAVING AN ORGASM EVERY SINGLE TIME

Reputable US research suggests 75 per cent of men always reach orgasm during sex while only 29 per cent of women do.
If that wasn't depressing enough, another comprehensive study (Elisabeth Lloyd, US) analysed more than 30 years of studies of female orgasm to conclude they're 'a happy accident' rather than a regular event that's guaranteed to happen.
Yet women still feel under incredible pressure to pretend they climax almost every time and are plagued with guilt and feeling 'not good enough/sexy enough' when it doesn't.
Men's orgasms are reliable and automatic; our are sporadic and dependent on a multitude of factors.

The mood we're in (fat/thin/bad hair/good hair/am I feeling desirable day), what's happening in our lives and relationships (he's being a b*****d again), the amount and type of foreplay and the amount we've drunk and eaten: all these factors affect whether or not we climax.
But - and it's a big one - more often than not, the main reason we don't orgasm is down to not enough foreplay, the wrong type, an ineffective foreplay technique or a terrible combination of all three.
Women have no need to be embarrassed if an orgasm doesn't happen - but if our partners are guilty of any of the above, perhaps they should be!

She adds that men and women have different types of desire that are more noticeable at certain times
She adds that men and women have different types of desire that are more noticeable at certain times
NOT WANTING SEX AS MUCH AS HE DOES

'They're all over you in the beginning but stop wanting it at all once you've been together for a while.'
How many times have we heard this one? (How many times will it be written in the comments section by men?)
The claim: women only seem to like sex at the beginning. Once the relationship is serious, we lose interest.
Some men think it means we're just not interested in sex at all. We fake it in the beginning until we've 'got him', then drop the act.

But there's a far less sinister, more plausible reason, according to research findings.
Men are more likely to feel 'spontaneous desire': they'll feel like sex before they start having it.

Women are more likely to feel 'reactive' desire: we might not feel like sex at the beginning but get aroused and enjoy sex once we start having it.
(Though, again, this will only happen if our partner's sexual technique is effective and enjoyable.)

Both sexes feel more spontaneous desire at the start of a relationship because that's when love and sex hormones flood our brains, as Mother Nature tries desperately to get us to have lots of sex to conceive.
Between nine and 18 months later, those hormones (necessarily) dry up and we fall back to our natural libido resting state.
This is when mismatched sex drives become apparent.
It's not women pretending to like sex to hook their men that causes a drop in desire.
It's to do with the different types of desire each gender experiences becoming more noticeable with time.

What also becomes apparent the longer you're together is that it's rare that both of you will feel like sex at the same time anyway.
If we were all a lot less hung up on sex having to be 'spontaneous', most people's sex lives would be in a much better state.
Put in the same 'spontaneous' planning you did at the start - plan nice things to do together, make sure you both look great, think up new things to try together in bed - and you might just find there's more than a flash of 'just-met-sex' in the next session.

A lower libido than your partner is also a common worry but Tracey says this is perfectly normal

10 Tips To Look Younger

1 Wear Sunscreen
I can't stress this enough. A large percentage of the visible signs of ageing (wrinkles, age spots) result from the cumulative effect of ultraviolet rays on the skin, over time. Wear sunscreen and you'll keep these at bay.
2 Get enough sleep
The whole idea of beauty sleep is not a myth. Your body needs time to restore itself overnight and that includes your face, too. While you sleep, cells are busy repairing DNA damage from the day before, so snuggle down and give them a chance to get on with it.
3 Learn where to put concealer
Dabbing a bit onto the skin between the inner corner of the eye and the nose has the effect of casting light into a notoriously dark spot and brightens up the face of anyone over 30. Sneak a bit around the edges of your nostrils, too, to minimise redness.
4 Drink plenty of water
Particularly hard to do at this time of year when it is so much easier to reach for warming coffee, tea or hot toddies. It won't hydrate your skin directly, but it will improve the way your insides work and good gut health is soon reflected in glowing skin.
5 Take up yoga
It is soothing, de-stressing, improves your posture, helps loosen the knots of tension that we all accumulate in our bodies and can be done anywhere. All you need is the space to unroll a yoga mat. Also, yoga devotees usually look remarkably youthful – and if you can't beat them, why not join in and see if it works its magic for you.
6 Cut sugar from your diet
The body doesn't need it and sugar, according to nutritionists and skin experts, exacerbates a process called glycation, which accelerates ageing in the skin. (I tried this last year and found that two weeks off the sweet stuff made my skin noticeably clearer and brighter.)
7 Add the odd facial into your beauty regime
Regular TLC from a skincare professional will pay dividends in terms of a fresher-looking complexion with more bloom and spring to it. If you feel guilty about treating yourself, ask for one as a present.
8 Revise your make-up
Most of us are guilty of falling into a make-up time warp and ignoring the fact that what suited us five or 10 years ago might not look so good today. Also, cosmetic formulations are constantly improving, so newer products are nicer to use, with better results.
9 Exercise regularly
Whether it's walking the dog, rock-climbing, or scuba-diving, anything that gets you moving will improve your circulation. That in turn will encourage bloodflow to the skin and help give it a healthy, youth-enhancing glow.
10 Give up smoking
Just in case you need another reason to quit. It deprives the skin of oxygen, accelerates the process of skin ageing by hastening the degradation of collagen, which means more wrinkles – faster. Oh, and it's not great for your health, either.

3 Best Sex Positions For Back Pain

Talk about a mood killer: Up to 73% of women with lower-back pain report having less sex as a result of their discomfort. Good thing researchers at Waterloo University ID'd the best ache-relieving sex positions to keep the lovin' alive (no ice packs necessary).
If your pain gets worse when you touch your toes or sit for long periods, try making love in a neutral spine position, supporting yourself on yourhands and knees (not your elbows).
If arching your back or lying on your stomach hurts, try missionary with a pillow under your back so your spine is in as neutral a position as possible.

A general note for all back-pain sufferers (men included): When you're controlling the motion, use your knees and hips (rather than your spine) to minimize potential discomfort.

5 Beauty Benefits of Vitamin C

Time and time again, we hear experts sing the praises of vitamin C. Why is it so incredibly essential? Well, Rianna Loving, founder of organic skincare brand ORGO Beauty, says the nutrient is responsible for creating and maintaining collagen—the "glue that holds the body together." Specifically, this antioxidant strengthens blood vessels and gives skin its elasticity and strength.
However, vitamin C is water-soluble. Meaning: Your body doesn't store or accumulate it. That's why daily intake is highly important, says Loving. Not convinced? See how a daily dose of vitamin C can improve your hair, nails, and skin:
It Promotes Hair Health
Vitamin C is one of the most effective nutrients to help grow and strengthen hair, says Loving. To give your locks a vital dose of vitamin C, blend a partially-boiled sweet potato, a half-cup of gooseberries, three strawberries, and half a small red bell pepper until you get a creamy smooth mixture. Then apply it to your scalp and hair. Leave the mask on for 15 to 25 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water.
It Makes You Look (And Feel) More Energized
In your diet, vitamin C plays a vital role in iron absorption—and iron contributes to your overall beauty and wellbeing, says Elisa Zied, author ofYounger Next Week: Your Ultimate Rx to Reverse the Clock, Boost Energy and Look and Feel Younger in 7 Days. "When you deplete your iron stores, you can develop anemia and experience fatigue and weakness," she says. "That certainly won't help you look and feel vibrant or energized."
It Promotes Nail Growth
"Vitamin C helps maintain the integrity of our nails by strengthening our skin, connective tissue, bones, and blood vessel walls," says Loving.
It Helps Prevent Hangnails
Because vitamin C strengthens nails and helps them grow, it can also prevent hangnails. Ingesting vitamin C is the best route for optimal nail health, so be sure to eat citrus fruits often.
It Wards Off Signs of Aging
A 2007 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutritionfound that middle-aged women who consumed more vitamin C from food sources appeared to have fewer wrinkles and less skin dryness. Experts suggest that vitamin C might delay the signs of aging due to free radical damage.
For a vitamin C-rich facemask, blend one kiwi and a half-cup of papaya, and apply the mixture to your face. After 15 to 20 minutes, wash it off with cold water.

6 Life Tips To Burn Belly Fat Fast

Want a flat stomach? Or maybe just shift a couple of pounds hanging onto your belly?
There are many alternative ways to do so than spending all your time breaking strenuous sweats in the gym (although working out is a key factor!)
It is amazing what certain small changes to your routine can do and how quickly belly fat can disappear.
health, stomach, belly, fitness
1. Plenty of Vitamin C
While Vitamin C is perfect for fighting a cold; it also produces carnitine a compound used by the body to turn fat into fuel and help burn it off. Kale, bell peppers and kiwi along with the traditional orange are rich in Vitamin C.
2. Goodbye Sugar!
Fighting belly fat consists of eating an 80% healthy diet enriched with vegetables, protein, whole-grain and omega 3 filled foods. Sugar is an evil ingredient, which quickly adds weight without us even realising, and forever leaves us craving more and more naughty snacks.
3. Swim!
Stereotypically it is suggested that in order to achieve a flat stomach you need to spend your time in the gym, obviously it helps but it’s not necessarily the only way. Instead, swim! It is relaxing, provides low impact on your joints and is fantastic cardio. Not only will it burn of the fat but also tone your muscles.
4. Eat Smaller Portions and More Often
Eating 5 – 6 small meals per day helps to lose weight as it keeps your metabolism constantly running as it is burning off the food, it also prevents the common problem of being hungry.  Try a light breakfast, small brunch, lunch, mid-afternoon snack, small dinner and possibly a small late snack.
5. Sleep
Studies prove that people who are regularly tired have slower metabolisms, taking longer to burn off calories. Getting a good and long sleep collects more energy to do more within the day and quickly burn off fat.
6. Strengthen your Core
You cannot avoid exercise if you want to lose weight… you don’t have to make it your priority but you do have to involve some into your routine! Your stomach muscles are apart of your core and there are many activities you can do to improve this that don’t just involve sit-ups – so next time you exercise focus purely on your core and you will see the fat shift fast!
